ABOUT THE TEAM

The Engineering team is responsible for all technology for Bestow and the Bestow Platform. We serve employees, consumers, and enterprise customers. In addition to building software, we integrate and manage many third-party products used by employees and as part of the platform. Our major functional teams are product engineering, infrastructure, IT, data & analytics, MarTech, and program management. Engineering works closely with product management and design to define and prioritize the product roadmap.

As a Staff Software Engineer, Life & Annuity Specialist on the Engineering team, you will work closely with Product Managers, Actuaries, and Insurance Specialists to develop and support solutions for complex cash-value insurance products, including Indexed Universal Life (IUL), Variable Universal Life (VUL), and annuities. You will collaborate with teams across Bestow to plan and execute the product roadmap for these sophisticated financial products. Our system is composed of several modular services that integrate with other services using modern communication patterns.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • You will develop systems and provide technical leadership to software teams, supporting complex insurance product calculations, policy administration, and regulatory compliance for cash-value insurance products.

  • You will leverage your experience with insurance software and expertise with insurance products to influence software architecture decisions.

  • We're expanding our product suite to include sophisticated insurance products with intricate financial mechanics. You will help build new platform capabilities that can handle complex actuarial calculations, investment tracking, and policy value computations.

  • We work remotely, so effective written communication and teleconference skills are essential.

Required experience:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience

  • Experience building financial calculation engines or working with complex mathematical computations

  • Understanding of insurance industry concepts, particularly life insurance products and their mechanics

  • Experience with actuarial calculations, present value computations, or financial modeling

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements in financial services

  • Experience working with distributed systems that handle sensitive financial data

  • Experience with relational databases and complex data modeling

  • Experience designing APIs for financial systems

  • Experience building, deploying, operating, and troubleshooting mission-critical financial software

Preferred additional experience:

  • Knowledge of cash-value insurance products (IUL, VUL, whole life, annuities)

  • Understanding of investment account management and market indexing

  • Experience with insurance policy administration systems

  • Familiarity with actuarial software or financial calculation libraries

  • Experience with regulatory reporting and compliance frameworks

  • Background in financial services, insurance, or fintech
