ABOUT THE TEAM
The Engineering Team is responsible for all technology at Bestow and the Bestow Platform. We serve employees, consumers, and enterprise customers. Engineering works closely with product management and design to define and prioritize the product roadmap.
We're seeking an experienced Director of Quality Assurance to lead our QA strategy and build a world-class program. Reporting to the CTO, you'll be responsible for establishing QA processes, leading a high-performing team, and ensuring our insurance software solutions are reliable, secure, and compliant with industry regulations. This role requires both strategic vision and hands-on technical expertise in a fast-paced startup environment.
The position requires expertise in the use of best-in-class tools and processes, especially AI-enabled testing tools. Candidates must have experience in managing testing programs in a complex environment including frequent deployments, independently released components, feature flagging, and distributed systems.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Strategic Leadership
Develop and execute comprehensive QA strategy aligned with business objectives and product roadmap
Build and scale the QA organization, including hiring, training, and mentoring QA engineers and analysts
Establish quality metrics, KPIs, and reporting frameworks to measure and communicate quality outcomes
Collaborate with product, engineering, and compliance teams to integrate quality throughout the development lifecycle
Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance testing efficiency and effectiveness
Technical Excellence
Design and implement automated testing frameworks for web applications, APIs, and integrations
Oversee test planning, execution, and reporting for complex insurance workflows and business logic
Ensure comprehensive testing of data accuracy and performance across all product features
Lead efforts to implement shift-left testing practices and quality gates in CI/CD pipelines
Stay current with QA tools, methodologies, and best practices in SaaS and insurtech domains including the latest applications of AI in testing
Compliance & Risk Management
Collaborate with security and compliance teams to validate data protection, privacy controls, and compliance requirements e.g. SOC 1, SOC 2, GDPR, state insurance regulations
Develop testing strategies for regulatory reporting and audit requirements
Manage risk assessment and mitigation strategies related to product quality
Collaboration, Internal & External
Partner with Product Management to define acceptance criteria and quality standards
Work closely with Engineering teams to establish testing requirements and review processes
Coordinate with Customer Success and Support teams to address quality-related customer issues
Communicate quality status and risks to executive leadership and stakeholders
Present testing strategy and plans to customers
Collaborate with customers’ testing teams for integration testing and support of customers’ internal testing
WHO YOU ARE
8+ years of software QA experience with 3+ years in management/leadership roles
Experience with SaaS products and agile development processes
Hands-on expertise in test automation (Playwright, Cypress, or similar)
Experience with API testing, performance testing, and CI/CD integration
Knowledge of cloud platforms (GCP, AWS) and engineering process tools (JIRA, Confluence, TestRail)
Understanding of compliance requirements (SOC 2, GDPR) and security testing
Strong leadership skills with ability to build and mentor technical teams
Excellent communication skills and ability to manage multiple projects
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in insurance, financial services, or regulated industries
Advanced automation and performance testing tools experience
Linux systems and database testing experience
QA certification (ISTQB, CSTE) or startup/scale-up experience
Experience building QA metrics dashboards and reporting systems
