Why join us?

Mitti by SafetyCulture is a global tech company, just not the kind you're picturing. Our almost 1,000-person team builds tools that make work better for the three billion frontline workers who keep the world moving. We've got big tech scale, without the sign-off layers or corporate theatre. Every permanent team member gets equity, so when we grow, you do too. This next chapter is about scaling smart, powered by AI, a clear vision and real ownership.

Big tech impact, without the big tech ick.

The Role

This role exists to help build the next generation of Mitti's customer identity and access platform: how a user signs up, logs in, verifies themselves, and is granted the right access, at a scale that already serves well over one hundred thousand users per organisation and is growing into the millions.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will join the User Management and Identity team within Foundations, collaborating closely with fellow engineers. Your initial focus will be on authentication and session management, including SSO configurations, multi-tenant logins, and identity flows to help establish a unified universal login experience across web and mobile. As priorities evolve, you will have opportunities to expand your scope across the broader identity ecosystem.

A major priority for this role is leading identity architecture evolution and legacy migrations. You will modernise and decompose legacy systems into targeted microservices while maintaining zero downtime for live customer traffic. This position is ideal for engineers who excel at solving complex, high-stakes distributed architecture challenges with precision and care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the authentication and session management domain, including SSO and multi-org login configurations, and drive the team's move toward a unified universal login experience across web and mobile

  • Lead safe, incremental migrations of identity and user data off legacy infrastructure, designing the dual-write/dual-read approach, backfill strategy, and staged cutover so production traffic is never disrupted

  • Design and evolve permission, provisioning and authentication systems (SCIM, SAML, OAuth 2.0, OIDC) that hold up under distributed, multi-tenant load

  • Apply identity security best practices by default: multi-factor authentication, session management, audit logging, and careful handling of credentials and tokens

  • Work as part of a small pod - no one owns a domain alone - pairing closely with other senior or staff engineers

  • Partner with Security and with the product teams whose features depend on user, organisation and permission data, keeping identity patterns consistent across the platform

  • Build AI-native automations as a normal part of how you ship, and help shape how the team uses AI tooling day to day

About You

Technical Skills

  • Deep, hands-on expertise in identity and access concepts: authentication, session management, SSO, SAML, OAuth 2.0 and OpenID Connect (OIDC), and a genuine interest in this space - this work rewards people who care about it

  • A strong backend engineering track record; Golang experience is highly valued, but a strong backend generalist with real enthusiasm for identity work is very welcome to apply

  • Experience designing and executing safe, incremental migrations in a live, high-traffic system - dual writes, data backfills, staged rollouts

  • Comfortable reasoning about permission and access systems across a distributed, multi-tenant architecture, where organisation and membership boundaries matter at scale

  • Relational data modelling and PostgreSQL at a level that includes schema design and safe migrations other engineers build on

  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, including operating and debugging production services

  • Compliance frameworks relevant to identity data, such as SOC 2, are a bonus rather than a requirement

Behavioural Skills

  • Autonomous by default - comfortable taking a domain and driving it forward without waiting to be told what to do

  • Willing to challenge the status quo and push for better ways of solving identity problems, not just execute a spec

  • Genuinely passionate about the identity and access space - this is what makes the detailed configuration work satisfying rather than a grind

  • Collaborative: works closely within a small pod, shares context generously, and helps peers rather than working in isolation

AI Skills

  • Integrates agentic AI tools (such as Claude) into daily software delivery workflows as a core habit.

  • Can demonstrate production experience building an AI-assisted automation or workflow that delivered measurable improvements.

  • Critical evaluator: critically assesses AI-generated code and suggestions for accuracy, quality, and security.

Success Looks Like

  • At 6 months: Fully owns authentication and session management end-to-end with minimal oversight, and has successfully delivered at least one live migration with zero customer disruption.

  • Recognised as a self-starter who proactively drives initiatives forward and serves as a trusted technical resource for identity topics.

  • Actively helps shape and refine the pod's AI-assisted delivery practices.

More than a job

  • Equity with high growth potential, and a competitive salary

  • Flexible working arrangements

  • Access to professional and personal training and development opportunities

  • Hackathons, Workshops, Lunch & Learns

  • In-house Culinary Crew serving up daily breakfast, lunch and snacks

  • Barista coffee machine, craft beer on tap, boutique wines and a range of non-alcoholic beverages

  • Wellbeing initiatives such as EAP services and generous parental leave policy

  • Quarterly celebrations and team events

  • On-site gym, table tennis, board games, books library, and pet-friendly offices
