Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Cryogenic Engineer to join our team. The successful candidate will play a critical role in the design, construction, and operation of a complex 2K cryogenic system to support the operation of our superconducting electron accelerator. This position requires expertise in cryogenic engineering, as well as strong leadership and project management skills to ensure the successful execution of the project.

Our approach harnesses the power of free-electron lasers, utilizing accelerator-based methods in use globally at scientific user facilities. Extending this technology, we are developing an industrial-grade light source, engineered for continuous operation, to meet the sophisticated demands of next-gen patterning, metrology, and inspection applications.

Responsibilities

• System Design and Development: Lead the design and development of the 2 Kelvin cryogenic plant, including specifications, component selection, and system integration.
• Project Management: Manage all aspects of the project, including scheduling, budgeting, resource allocation, and risk management, to ensure timely and successful completion.
• Team Leadership: Build and lead a team of engineers and technicians to execute the project effectively, providing guidance, mentorship, and support as needed.
• Collaboration: Work closely with other teams and departments within the organization, as well as external partners and vendors, to ensure alignment and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
• Testing and Commissioning: Oversee the testing and commissioning of the cryogenic system, including performance verification and troubleshooting to ensure optimal operation.
• Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation of design specifications, test procedures, and operational guidelines, and provide regular progress reports to stakeholders.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenic Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 15 years of experience in cryogenic engineering, with a strong background in the design, construction, and operation of cryogenic systems.
• Experience with superconducting technology and particle accelerators is highly desirable.
• Proven track record of successfully leading complex engineering projects from conception to completion.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage teams and collaborate across departments.
• Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations related to cryogenic systems and safety protocols.
• Proficiency in CAD software, NX in particular, and other engineering tools for design and analysis.
• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.

Desired Skills

• Familiarity with electron accelerator component design or related scientific instrumentation.
• Familiarity with semiconductor capital equipment.
